You need 3 things: Desire, Energy, and Direction.
Desire is yearning. It is the deeply felt itch to do something wonderful, fun, challenging, and worthwhile. Energy, of course, is the fuel. Direction is not just the destination but your ability to not lose sight of it (focus?).
I often find myself high on desire and energy but without direction. I end up taking up random projects that are not necessarily “useful” in the conventional sense. Usually, I am okay with this because I’m having fun and learning along the way.
But lately, I catch myself wishing I had more direction. Would be nice if some of my efforts aligned. Would be real nice to build one BIG thing instead of many small things. Perhaps this is a delusion, but I want to try.
Even as I say this, I don’t know what is the “Direction” that I seek. Perhaps I should look in the obvious places first: At work? In relationships? Maybe it's not that deep, ya know? Don’t smother something simple?
This post was inspired by a 2x2 that I made earlier. I was looking at it and realized that it’s missing a third axis (Direction). How does one make a 2x2x2?
